He has a tendency to keep problems to himself, meaning that he doesn’t build close relationships with those around him. He’s smart and capable but because of that, he also understands his own weaknesses and that is a source of his fear, which becomes a problem later on. There is no way you could dislike this character. He reminds me of Naruto: hot-headed, caring about his friends, finds ways to connect with people and has a strong sense of justice. He may seem hopeless because he performs badly in academics but he doesn’t let that bother him and he works hard on goals that he feels matter to him. This holds true for the post part, but later on it becomes evident that Rin a different set of strengths, such as his positive personality. In summary, on the surface, Yukio knows pretty much everything and is in every respect a in a stronger position than his elder brother, who thinks he’s just a regular human being. On the other hand, Yukio (supposedly) inherits nothing but as he was inflicted with a demonic wound (by Rin) in their mother’s womb, he was born able to see demons and given exorcist training by their foster father Fujimoto Shiro from a young age. Rin, the elder twin, is the only one who inherits Satan’s blue flames and associated powers, although he is unaware of them or his true identity until he turns fifteen. At the beginning of the story, it’s revealed that they are both sons of Satan. The sibling dynamic between twins Rin and Yukio Okumura is central to the plot throughout. And family is not a bad thing, though that’s a qualified statement and might not apply if you belong to Satan’s family! What I really liked about Ao no Exorcist are the underlying themes: you can’t choose that you were born, nor can you choose your parents but you can choose how you live. There are exams involved, as well as making new friends and overcoming all sorts of challenges.
